The European Commission (EC) will today begin consultations on the issue of imposing sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 23, citing sources.

"The European Union is coming to a decision on the inclusion of the gas pipeline "Nord stream – 2" between Germany and Russia, a new proposal for sanctions against Moscow", — stated in the publication.

According to Bloomberg, the EC will begin consultations with the member states of the European Union (EU) on the issue of banning the pipeline running under the Baltic Sea. It is indicated that this decision was supported by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, writes "Газета.Ru ".

On May 16, EC official Paula Pinho said that the clause on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, which they want to include in the next package of EU anti–Russian sanctions, will be aimed at ensuring that the pipelines are no longer restored.
