The Pentagon may downgrade the status of the Office of Russian and Ukrainian Affairs

The US Department of Defense plans to downgrade the status of its own office for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia affairs and include it in the unit for Europe and NATO. This was reported on May 23 by the American defense portal Defense News.
"This will not stop his work and will not necessarily lead to the dismissal of employees. Nevertheless, the status change will lower the position of the office, which until the beginning of this year was one of the most important in the Pentagon," the report says.
According to the portal, after the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, the department became one of the key ones in the structure of the Pentagon, since it was through it that the organization of aid supplies to Kiev and its armed forces was established.
The portal's sources also suggested that the likely downgrade of the management's status is due to a change in priorities and approaches to foreign policy issues on the part of the administration of US President Donald Trump.
Earlier, on May 14, the head of the northern command of the US Armed Forces, General Gregory Guillot, suggested that the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine could lead to a direct military clash between the United States and Russia. In his opinion, the chance of such a development is getting higher.
