Farewell to choreographer Yuri Grigorovich has ended at the Bolshoi Theater.

The farewell ceremony for choreographer Yuri Grigorovich ended on May 22 in Moscow at the Bolshoi Theater.

The portrait of the People's Artist of the USSR and wreaths were carried out in front of the coffin with the body, loading it into a hearse, which went to the Novodevichy cemetery. Grigorovich's body will be cremated, and then his ashes will be buried next to his wife, ballerina Natalia Bessmertnova.

A lot of his colleagues and fans came to say goodbye to the choreographer in the morning, who brought a large number of flowers. The event was held in the main foyer of the historic Bolshoi Theatre building.

Grigorovich's death became known on May 19. The choreographer died at the age of 98. Since 1964, he has been the chief choreographer of the Bolshoi Theatre. Grigorovich is the author of eight original ballets, as well as the editor of almost all classical productions that formed the basis of the Bolshoi Theater's repertoire.

Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, called the choreographer a symbol of an entire epoch in the history of ballet art. According to her, the contribution of the People's Artist of the USSR to the development of Russian choreography cannot be overestimated.
