Additional forces of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations have been sent to protect the village of Linevo Lake in the Khiloksky district of the Trans-Baikal Territory, where a large landscape fire is continuing, the agency reported on May 23.

It is noted that 1.5 km from the settlement, the fire engulfed a natural area of 300 hectares. Due to the ignition of dry vegetation, the fire may spread further and spread to residential buildings.

In order to prevent this, the Ministry of Emergency Situations deployed more than 30 people and 19 pieces of equipment. In addition, an Mi-8 helicopter will be sent to Linevo Lake.

"The Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations will deliver additional forces of the airmobile group of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Khabarovsk Territory. The aircraft will also be used to extinguish the edge of the fire using a spillway device," the agency's Telegram channel says.

The official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Irina Volk, announced on the same day that three forestry workers suspected of setting fire to dry grass, which led to a large-scale forest fire, had been detained in the Trans-Baikal Territory. The defendants were the head of the forest fire brigade, a forest firefighter and the driver of the regional branch of the KGSAU Zabaikalsky Forestry Association. According to preliminary information, in March they set up a fall of dry grass near the forest area, allegedly for preventive purposes. A criminal case has been opened.

An active fight against forest fires continues in the Trans-Baikal Territory, involving both special services and volunteers. The head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 22, said that the area of forest fires in Russia had increased 2.5 times compared to last year.
