Orban opposed the EC's plan to ban Russian energy resources

The Hungarian government intends to prevent the adoption of the European Commission's (EC) plan for a complete ban on Russian energy supplies to EU countries from the end of 2027. This was announced on May 23 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, speaking on the Kossuth radio station.
"Budapest must show not only wisdom, but also perseverance to prevent the adoption of a decision that would ban the use of Russian gas," the Hungarian Prime Minister said.
According to him, the decision being prepared by the EC will lead to the fact that payments for electricity will double, and for heating in houses — four times.
On May 22, Orban called the EU's energy policy absurd and aimed at supporting Ukraine. Budapest's policy in this area, on the contrary, is aimed at making energy resources cheaper for the population. The head of the Hungarian government called for joint efforts to combat the energy threat from the association.
