The key task in the current circumstances is to prepare a reliable peace agreement with Ukraine. This was announced on May 23 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"The most important task now is to prepare a peace treaty that will be reliable and ensure a long—term, sustainable, just peace without creating security threats to anyone," Lavrov said.

According to him, it is necessary to create a peace treaty in which there will be no infringement of the rights of Russians and Russian-speaking people.

The Minister also stressed that the Charter of the United Nations (UN) prohibits discrimination based on linguistic and religious principles.

Earlier in the day, Lavrov said that the simplest step towards resolving the conflict in Ukraine would be for the West to demand that Kiev repeal laws that violate the UN Charter. According to him, such an action could be the first real step for those Western countries that are "fussing" in an attempt to find a settlement.
