- Lavrov called on the West to achieve the repeal of Ukrainian laws violating the UN Charter

The simplest step towards resolving the conflict in Ukraine would be for the West to demand that Kiev repeal laws that violate the Charter of the United Nations (UN). This was announced on May 23 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"The simplest and absolutely infallible thing is to demand the repeal of laws that directly violate the UN Charter, not to mention numerous conventions on the protection of the rights of national minorities," Lavrov said.
He added that such a demand could be the first real step for those Western countries that are "fussing" in an attempt to find a settlement.
On May 19, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine depends on a large number of nuances. According to him, Russia is ready for this work.
