The second round of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev will take place, which can already be considered a "positive" signal. This was announced on May 23 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"Yes, there will be a second round of negotiations. They confirmed it. This is already a positive development," Lavrov said.

He also noted that Russia continues to work on a memorandum on a possible settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. At the same time, the minister stressed that the dates of the new round of negotiations have not yet been determined.

Commenting on Kiev's position, the Russian Foreign Minister said that Ukraine assumed that the West would "forever allow everything," but Trump's statements indicate a change in approach.

"[US President Donald] Trump clearly emphasizes that the <conflict> in Ukraine is not his <conflict>," Lavrov said, adding that such an approach by the current US president demonstrates a different understanding of the conflict compared to the administration of former American leader Joe Biden.

Lavrov also called the idea of meeting with representatives of Ukraine in the Vatican unrealistic.

Negotiations between the delegations of the Russian Federation and Ukraine took place in Istanbul on May 16. According to the head of the Russian delegation, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky, the parties agreed on a large-scale exchange of prisoners of war in the "1000 to 1000" format, which should take place in the coming days.
