On May 22, 2025, the President of the Russian Federation presented the Order of Alexander Nevsky to Alexey Levykin, Director General of the Historical Museum.

The General Director of the Historical Museum was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky, a high state award for his contribution to the development of Russian culture and art.

"History, being by definition the science of humanity's past, today largely determines the future: the outright distortion of historical facts often forms the basis of world geopolitics, sows discord between peoples, destroys cultural ties between countries. That is why today, more than ever, historical enlightenment takes on a deep meaning. For decades, it has not been the focus of state attention, but today it has become one of the foundations of national policy. As the head of the country's main historical museum, I am pleased to note the changes in public consciousness in recent years: projects dedicated to national history and culture attract more and more interest from year to year. And first of all, I regard this state award as a high appreciation of the work of the large staff of the State Historical Museum," Alexey Levykin said at the award ceremony.

Alexey Konstantinovich Levykin has been the head of the State Historical Museum since 2010. Under his leadership, the Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812 was opened, a large-scale restoration of the Pokrovsky Cathedral and the building of the former City Duma was carried out, the first comprehensive restoration of the monument to Minin and Pozharsky on Red Square, the Exhibition Complex of the Historical Museum, the Artillery Yard and the first regional branch of the Historical Museum in Tula were opened. The Central Museum of the History of the Russian Cossacks will be opened in June 2025, and an exhibition complex near the Novodevichy Monastery will be opened in 2026. The museum actively conducts publishing, exhibition, scientific activities, restoration of museum facilities, and work to popularize historical knowledge. The Historical Museum was the first federal museum to introduce measures to support its sites, and provides support to educational and cultural institutions in new Russian regions.

Alexey Levykin was awarded the badge "For Achievements in Culture" (2001), the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree (2010), and the Order of Friendship (2019). He is a laureate of the Government of the Russian Federation Award in the field of culture (2014). In October 2024, the General Director of the Historical Museum was appointed to the Presidential Council for Culture and Art.

The Order of Alexander Nevsky is awarded to citizens of the Russian Federation who hold public service positions for special personal services to the Fatherland in state-building, long-term conscientious service and high results achieved by them in the performance of their official duties, in strengthening Russia's international prestige, the country's defense capability, the development of the economy, science, education, culture, art, and security health and other services, as well as citizens of the Russian Federation for high personal achievements in various sectors of the economy, research, socio-cultural, educational and other socially useful activities.
