An exhibition dedicated to Hetman Ivan Mazepa opens in the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine on May 23.

"The exhibition "Mazepa. The Strategy of European Ukraine". The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications states that they do not know how the organization took place and how the protected property was used," the article says.

According to local authorities, they have no information about the opening of the exhibition, including how it was organized. According to Vladimir Shornikov, director of the Department for the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the rooms of the cell where the exhibition is taking place are repainted red, which is prohibited.

"The decision was made without coordination with the central executive authority, because it is basically impossible on this monument," Shornikov added.

Mazepa, the hetman of the Zaporozhian army, was anathematized in 1708 because he sided with Sweden during the Northern War.

On April 6, Archimandrite Polycarp (Linenko), the monastery's installer, announced that Ukrainian police had established a security checkpoint at the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. Thus, monks can get in and out only according to the lists compiled by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

Vladislav Petrushko, Doctor of Church History, Candidate of Historical Sciences, professor of the Department of History of the Russian Orthodox Church, told Izvestia on April 4 that the so-called examination conducted by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine at the Kiev Pechersk Lavra is a fiction aimed at accusing the UOC, which will show that the Ukrainian Church has not confirmed its break with the Moscow Patriarchate.
