Over the past day, 322 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 25 people were killed and 351 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on May 23 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

16 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, while 22 road users were injured. The reason for the seven incidents were traffic violations committed by bus drivers.

As a result of 81 accidents, 30 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 51 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, and 79 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 30 children under the age of 16, 25 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in places not designated for this purpose. 66 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which there were no dead children, 68 young road users were injured.

Due to the flood situation in the country's regions, temporary traffic closures remain in place. Thus, traffic on sections of 18 highways of regional significance has been temporarily suspended in the Tyumen Region.

In just a week, school holidays will begin — a period when children spend more free time outdoors, often left to themselves, without adult supervision, and, as a result, are more likely to get into road accidents. It is at this time that parents should be more attentive to their children and try to ensure maximum safety on the road for them, the Traffic Police stressed.

So, according to operational data, since the beginning of May, 21 children have already died on Russian roads and another 1405 have been injured. It is necessary to regularly tell children about the rules of the road, the dangers of entering the roadway and the need to follow the rules of safe behavior, especially when crossing the road, the department said. Parents were urged not to let them go outside alone, to use retroreflective elements on children's outerwear and to control their wearing.

When driving in a populated area or near pedestrian crossings, drivers need to be extremely careful and reduce their speed as much as possible in order to react in time to a possible sudden change in the road situation: the behavior of child pedestrians is often unpredictable.

"In addition, parents need to instill discipline and responsibility in their children. Adult road users need to demonstrate safe behavior on the road by their own example, as well as regularly remind children of the need for strict compliance with traffic rules. We draw the attention of parents to the administrative responsibility for providing the opportunity to drive motor vehicles for children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category. All road users who find themselves in a difficult situation on the road can seek help from the staff of the State Traffic Inspectorate around the clock," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

The day before, the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate announced that it would hold a three-day "SIM, Bike Courier" raid in the capital, aimed at preventing traffic violations by users of personal mobility equipment (SIM) and bicycles.
