A Tajik citizen, Emomov Tagaimurod, has been detained in Azerbaijan, accused of organizing major drug trafficking to Russia. This was reported to TASS by law enforcement agencies on May 23.
The man has been on the international wanted list for more than 11 years, law enforcement agencies said.
"He is accused of drug trafficking on a particularly large scale," the ministry said, adding that the issue of Emomov's extradition to Russia is currently being resolved.
According to investigators, the accused organized the supply of hundreds of kilograms of heroin through a network of couriers. Several participants who testified against him had already been convicted in this case.
At the moment, Emomov is awaiting extradition to Russia.
Earlier, on April 10, it was reported that the police had liquidated an underground laboratory for the production of the synthetic drug mephedrone, which operated in the Nevsky district of St. Petersburg. A powdery substance and canisters of liquid with a total volume of more than 5 thousand liters were found. More than 43 kg of the finished narcotic substance were seized from the premises.
