The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of withdrawing about 4,500 troops from South Korea and relocating them to other areas of the Indo-Pacific region. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on May 22, citing sources.

"The Trump administration is considering the possibility of withdrawing thousands of American troops from South Korea. <...> One of the options being developed by the Pentagon is to withdraw about 4,500 troops and transfer them to other locations in the Indo-Pacific region," the publication says.

It is clarified that this idea has not yet been submitted to the American leader and is under consideration by high-ranking officials. According to the newspaper, the final decision on the withdrawal of troops will depend on the course of the Ukrainian conflict.

The Yonhap news agency reported on April 17 that the South Korean and US Air Forces have launched joint military exercises Freedom Flag. About 90 aircraft took part in them.
