Representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF), who demand that Volgograd be given back its old name, should be reminded that the city was renamed back under Soviet rule. This was announced on May 22 by Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.

"They took it, called Tsaritsyn Stalingrad, and then renamed it too. Who did it? Be silent! We did it ourselves. Now tell me — give it back! And why did you rename it?" TASS quoted the chairman as saying.

Volodin clarified that there are monuments to Vladimir Lenin in all regions of Russia, they are treated with care and their demolition is prohibited. He added that at the same time, the USSR leadership demolished all monuments to Joseph Stalin, notes "Газета.Ru ".

On May 8, a sign with the name "Stalingrad" was changed on the building of Volgograd International Airport. On April 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the assignment of a new name to the city's air harbor. It was clarified that it would not be changed due to the fact that it is historical.
