At least 94% of hospitals in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed or damaged as a result of the escalating conflict with Israel. This was announced on May 22 by the World Health Organization (WHO).

So, at the moment, only 19 of the existing 36 hospitals are operating in the Palestinian enclave, capable of providing assistance to patients.

"Of the 19 hospitals, 12 provide various medical services, while the rest can only provide basic emergency care. At least 94% of all hospitals in the Gaza Strip are damaged or destroyed," the statement said.

According to the organization, the northern part of Gaza has completely lost any medical care — the Al-Awda hospital located there functions as a trauma center. It is also regularly subjected to airstrikes, as a result of which the water tank and pipeline were damaged.

"Tents for triaging patients, including those provided by WHO, caught fire [due to the strikes], as a result of which all medical supplies in the warehouse also burned down and vehicles in the basement were destroyed," the ministry said.

In addition, the Kamal Advan Hospital, the Indonesian Hospital, the Hamad Rehabilitation and Prosthetics Hospital and the European Hospital have been forced to suspend medical services over the past 10 days due to proximity to the fighting.

The WHO said that currently only 2,000 hospital beds are available in the Gaza Strip for a population of more than 2 million people. According to the data provided, 697 attacks on medical facilities have been registered in the territory of the Palestinian enclave since October 2023.

On May 20, it was reported that the Gaza Strip was experiencing a "catastrophic" situation due to the lack of humanitarian assistance. It was noted that more than 320 people died due to hunger and lack of medical care, which was not allowed by the Israeli occupying forces.
