Assault Force: how the troops of the Center group liberated Novoolenovka in the DPR

The Center group's attack aircraft liberated the village of Novoolenovka in the DPR, entering the highway connecting Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk), Mirnograd (Dimitrov) and Konstantinovka in several places. During the fighting, our military managed not only to destroy the enemy's stronghold, but also to continue to withstand four enemy counterattacks, inflicting heavy losses on him. At the moment, our troops are continuing their offensive, "collapsing" the formed ledges and consolidating control over the highway. Izvestia learned how the battles for Novoolenovka went from the direct participants in the combat operation.
New tactics for storming strongholds
— We took the enemy's stronghold in Tarasovka. We moved towards the enemy and made our way unnoticed. I threw two teemes (anti-tank mines), we moved to a safe place, and an explosion occurred. After the explosion, they ran into an enemy stronghold. We cleared it out and, it turns out, we took it," recalls Private Mikhail Kazantsev about the destruction of a large enemy stronghold in the Tarasovka area, which prevented progress.
The destruction of enemy strongholds with the help of powerful explosive charges based on TM anti—tank mines is a common practice today. This is done with the help of robots, if the terrain allows, and, as they say, manually — if possible, approach the enemy's stronghold from the "blind zone". The problem is that a heavy charge must be thrown inside the fortification to cause maximum damage, and you need to know the terrain and situation well so that such operations do not turn into a one-way road.
— Of course, we planned everything well, how to get through, how to get closer to the enemy, and we succeeded. Of course, a "bird" accompanied us there and from above, so that everything was safe to carry out this assault," Mikhail Kazantsev recalls.
The actions of the attack aircraft were supported by their own UAV unit, which is engaged in reconnaissance and pinpoint grenade drops from the air.
— We are sitting, in principle, on the front line directly with the stormtroopers, because our last position was 800 meters from the enemy. And we will organize a reconnaissance of the area, support our guys during the approach. Specifically, our department is engaged in drops and reconnaissance — sometimes these are combat drops on the enemy, and sometimes they are drops of provisions for our fighters. We can drop walkie—talkies, water, and food," says Vsevolod Slashchev, commander of the UAV squad.
How Russian fighters stormed Novoolenovka
Vsevolod recalls that the two-week battles for Novoolenovka became one of the fastest in his military career. A little earlier, in this area, defensive actions against the enemy were supported by the unprecedented massive use of attack drones. One of the most famous enemy UAV units, the Magyar Birds, also worked on this sector of the front. When it was transferred to another sector of the front, the problems of the enemy infantry from the 157th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine worsened and, as a result, morale dropped, and cases of surrender became more frequent.
— Twice I saw a picture when, after processing the support that we identified, people, in the first case there were 12 people, if I'm not mistaken, in the second case there were eight people, just started to come out of hiding and retreat. When there were "Magyar Birds" during the capture of Tarasovka, it was the FPV, the poultry houses — that's where we had a hard time. After they rolled back, the 157th remained, and the enemy immediately gave up two villages," Vsevolod says. According to him, the captured Ukrainian militants also confirmed that the main pillar of defense was the FPV kamikaze.
When the approach to the village of Novoolenovka was opened, rapid advance on motorcycles played a major role in the capture of the settlement.
— Before us, a small intelligence group visited the village. We went there with a group of 18 people on motorcycles, two people each, a pair of first and second numbers. They dispersed, revealed where the enemy was fortified, where they could immediately storm, they stormed. Where there was a more serious fortification, they reinforced each other and already had four or six people working. Well, they gave them heat. Three streets were taken away," recalls Private Murat Gadzhikurbanov.
Murat says that he was trained at the training ground to use motorcycles in assault operations and is grateful to the driving instructors. Private Gadzhikurbanov met with one of them already during the storming of Novoolenovka in a motorcycle group.
After the enemy realized that Novoolenovka was lost, our stormtroopers repelled four enemy infantry counterattacks. In addition, when trying to dislodge our fighters from the village, the enemy also used cluster artillery shells. But the fighters of the Center group were not only able to hold the settlement, but also inflicted serious losses on the enemy already on the defensive.
Earlier, Izvestia reported the details of the storming of the village of Razliv in the DPR. Our fighters used UAVs to study the settlement in advance and practiced all their maneuvers. Immediately before the assault, the electronic warfare system managed to disable all enemy drones, and he was temporarily "blinded". The Russian military took advantage of this: they threw stormtroopers into the village on armored vehicles and motorcycles. Artillery crews and FPV drone operators provided powerful fire support during the attack. They drove the enemy out of the forest plantations, dugouts and fortified positions. In 10 days, about 400 buildings were cleared and more than 150 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed. As a result, soldiers from Transbaikalia set up the Russian flag at several points of the Spill.
