- The Russian Embassy in Portugal announced the continuation of the anti-Russian course in the country.

There are no prospects for changes in relations between Russia and Portugal after the early elections to the Portuguese parliament. This was reported to Izvestia on May 22 at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon.
Early parliamentary elections were held in Portugal on May 18. The center-right Democratic Alliance won, but it again did not receive a majority of votes. The second place was taken by the Socialists, slightly ahead of the far-right Chega party, which scored a record 22% of the vote.
"There are no prospects for changes in Russian-Portuguese relations after the early elections. The victorious Democratic Alliance coalition, led by the Social Democratic Party, has been in power for a year and has managed to prove itself from an exclusively Russophobic position during this time," the Russian embassy said.
In addition, the diplomatic mission noted that there remains a stable inter-party consensus in the country on further assistance to Ukraine, with aid volumes already exceeding hundreds of millions of euros.
"Since the beginning of its work, Lisbon has provided comprehensive support to the Kiev regime both bilaterally and through the European Economic Area and NATO institutions. There were direct deliveries of military equipment, including Leopard 2A6 tanks, unmanned aerial vehicle systems, and M113 armored personnel carriers," the Russian diplomats said.
According to representatives of local authorities, this support will be increased until Russia is dealt a "strategic defeat," the Russian Embassy in Portugal said.
Earlier, in September 2024, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that steps such as the transfer of Russian aircraft to Kiev indicate Portugal's loss of political independence. She noted that Lisbon is acting in line with the course of the collective West in waging a hybrid war against Russia.
