- A career guidance counselor named the most popular professions among teenagers in 2025

In the coming years, there will be a high demand for IT specialists, engineers, and representatives of scientific professions. Natalia Novoselova, a career guidance counselor and co-founder of the Point B school of career choice, told Izvestia on May 24.
According to her, programmers and other digital specialists remain traditionally popular among young people. If in the early 2000s parents dreamed of seeing their children as lawyers and economists, today everyone is striving to find their place in the IT industry. Engineers are no less in demand on the labor market — a profession experiencing a real shortage of personnel both in Russia and abroad.
Teenagers are particularly interested in applied and fundamental sciences. Chemical-biological and mathematical profiles in schools are consistently popular among students. Classical professions such as pedagogy and medicine, where dynastic traditions are still strong, do not lose their relevance.
Among the new trends, the expert highlights the rapidly gaining popularity of specialties related to artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analysis.
Teenagers who follow technological trends show an increased interest in cybersecurity, robotics, and user interface design.
"UX/UI designers create user-friendly and attractive interfaces for web and mobile applications, providing a positive user experience and contributing to the success of products on the market," Novoselova explained.
Entrepreneurship occupies a special place in the rating — many schoolchildren dream of launching their own startups and developing innovative projects. However, the expert warned that in the regions there is often no opportunity to receive high-quality education in these areas.
"As a career guidance counselor, I advise you to avoid choosing a profession based only on "popular" or "in-demand" professions. It is important to understand that the market needs in—demand professionals at all times," the specialist concluded.
Earlier, on May 20, Kristina Ivanenko, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Presidential Academy (RANEPA), told how parents can help a student decide on a future profession. The specialist noted that parents should not take the position of an expert, but rather become a mentor for the child and together with him look for ways to solve the problem.
