The actions of Western states to politicize the work of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) provoke a split within the structure and have a negative impact on its activities. This was announced on May 22 at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the organization.

"Western countries are seeking to modify the OPCW to suit their own selfish political objectives. <...> This has already led to a split in the organization and has a negative impact on its activities," the permanent mission told TASS.

In addition, the Permanent Mission stressed that the West is actively using the OPCW site as a platform for political statements and propaganda actions.

Earlier, on February 3, the Russian permanent mission to the OPCW informed Izvestia of Moscow's readiness to discuss with Washington all issues on the organization's agenda. At the same time, it was clarified that the American representatives in The Hague are not yet ready for concrete cooperation with Russia.
