The Nevsky International Ecological Congress was joined by young ecologists from all over the world

On May 22, the XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress (NMEC) began in St. Petersburg, a key platform for discussing environmental issues, sustainable development and the formation of an ecological culture. Within the framework of the congress, a large-scale youth program is being held for young eco-activists and students from Rosmolodezh and the Ecosystem Movement with the support of Roscongress.

"Young people from different regions of Russia and abroad joined the youth program of the congress. This once again underlines the importance of environmental issues for young people around the world. The participants will discuss the issues of involving the new generation in the eco-agenda and eco-education. We will pay special attention to strengthening international cooperation in this area. The Nevsky International Ecological Congress will result in a resolution that will include proposals on key issues of environmental protection, environmental and food security, as well as on the involvement of young people in nature conservation," said Grigory Gurov, head of Rosmolodezh.

150 young eco-activists joined the youth program at the Tavrichesky Palace. On the first day, an open dialogue "Cadres decide: how to attract young people to the environment?" was held, where experts, representatives of the Federation Council, Rosmolodezh, international organizations and youth movements discussed challenges and opportunities for new professions in the "green" economy.

At the sessions "Children for a Clean Planet", "The Path of the Climate Agenda", "Eco-education and Volunteerism: a look into the future" and "Plastic Future: a balance between innovation and environmental responsibility", experts, public figures, scientists, eco-volunteers and business representatives discussed the main strategies that will help young professionals realize themselves in the field of sustainable development.

A city clean-up day "We are for cleanliness" was held in the Garden on Neva Forest Park. The participants improved the territory, and also passed the standards of respect for nature as part of the EcoGTO relay race. Earlier, the All-Russian clean-up days "We are for Cleanliness" were held across the country and united about half a million Russians. On the second day, as part of the youth program, an award ceremony is planned for the winners among the regions in the "We are for Cleanliness" campaign.

During the two days of the program, participants will visit the "green" enterprises of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region: the V. G. Khlopin Radium Institute, the Federal Breeding and Genetic Center for Fish Farming and the Assembly Ecocenter, where they study production processes and get acquainted with career opportunities in the field of sustainable development.

The youth program will continue on the second day and outside the Congress. St. Petersburg schools will host environmental lessons in the city's schools.

On the eve of the opening of the XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress, Rosatom Ecofest youth eco-lifestyle festival was held in Smolenka yacht port on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. More than 500 participants from different regions of the country met to learn about career opportunities in the "green" economy, get acquainted with innovative environmental projects, participate in workshops on separate waste collection, join the federal register of bone marrow donors as part of the "Rare Coincidence" project and see a collection of clothing made from recycled materials. The Rosatom festival, with the support of Rosmolodezh and the Ecosystem Movement, demonstrated how modern youth can be a driver of environmental change.

The organizers of the XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress are: the Government of the Russian Federation, the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation. The Roscongress Foundation is the operator for the preparation and holding of the event.
