The launch of the world's first cross-border cable car, which is to connect Russia with China, is scheduled for spring 2026. It stretches between the banks of the Amur River.

The cable car between Blagoveshchensk and Heihe is being built as part of an intergovernmental agreement between Russia and China, which was concluded in September 2015. In July 2019, a symbolic strat was given to the project.

PrimaMedia news agency clarifies that it was originally planned to implement the project back in March 2023. However, the Russian investor announced a change in the deadline due to the need for negotiations with foreign partners. The cost of the megastructure has increased from 12 billion rubles to more than 13 billion rubles.

According to Ekaterina Kuzmina, the operational director of the Agency for the Development of Project Initiatives, the 13.2 billion rubles amount includes both the terminal and the cable car itself, so that "everything is functioning."

The road will operate like a funicular, according to the pendulum principle. The length of the route will be 976 m. It will be held at an altitude of 70 m. The flight duration is 2.5 minutes. Two independent lines with two cabins for 60 people each will be equipped. It is expected that the capacity will be 6.8 thousand people per day in each direction.

Construction workers are working synchronously on the border shores. The Chinese equipment manufacturer duplicates supplies to two facilities at once. Currently, the passenger terminal building on the Russian coast is 60% ready.

According to Kuzmina, the facility belongs to the third category of complexity, test trips will be carried out first.

The project is being implemented by the Agency for the Development of Project Initiatives.

On May 22, Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said that Russia and China are looking for new areas for joint investments. Chinese businesses have traditionally invested in agriculture, chemical production, infrastructure construction, mechanical engineering, and mining. The Russian Federation and China can invest in electric cars and online markets, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation told Izvestia.
