A special military operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass has been conducted by Russia since February 24, 2022. In this area, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lost up to 400 soldiers, a Canadian Senator armored personnel carrier, seven armored fighting vehicles, including an HMMWV armored vehicle and an American-made MaxxPro armored vehicle, two pickup trucks and three artillery pieces.
The Russian military in the special operation zone struck with the Iskander tactical missile system, destroying two launchers, a combat control cabin and a radar station of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system manufactured by the United States.
In addition, air defense systems shot down four HIMARS multiple launch rocket launchers and three American-made JDAM guided aerial bombs, as well as 317 aircraft-type drones in their area. At the same time, from 20:00 on May 20 to 8:00 on May 22, 485 Ukrainian drones were destroyed by the air defense forces: 26 over the Belgorod region, 135 over the Oryol region, 59 over Bryansk, 121 over Kursk, 15 over Ryazan, 4 over Lipetsk, 7 over Voronezh, over Smolenskaya — 3, over Rostovskaya — 2, over Kaluzhskaya — 13, over Tula — 20, over Moskovskaya — 63, over Vladimirskaya — 6, over the Republic of Crimea and the Black Sea — 3, eight more are on the flight routes.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 662 aircraft, 606 anti-aircraft missile systems, 25150 field artillery and mortars, 283 helicopters, 23468 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 1563 multiple rocket launchers, 58360 unmanned aerial vehicles, 35790 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed.
