The number of States that are trying to interfere in the affairs of the Caspian region is growing. This was announced on May 22 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

According to him, the Russian Federation consistently proceeds from the exclusive competence of the five states in resolving issues related to the Caspian Sea.

"Although there are more and more people who want to get involved in these issues. Here, it is necessary to clearly ensure the implementation of the relevant agreements that were reached as part of the work on the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea," Lavrov said at the opening of the fourth meeting of the interdepartmental commission on Caspian cooperation. His words are quoted by TASS.

The Minister recalled the III Caspian Economic Forum, which was held on February 17-18 in Tehran. He stressed that during the event, the parties noted the high level of relations between the Caspian littoral countries in the oil and gas and electric power sectors, and supported further strengthening of cooperation in the field of transportation, as well as transport and logistics infrastructure.

Lavrov noted that the parties had agreed, among other things, to hold a meeting of the ministers of economy and transport. He stressed that the identified priority activities of the five States should remain in the focus of the commission's attention, designed to facilitate the implementation of the decisions of the third forum.

At the congress of young scientists on December 2 last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to do everything possible to prevent the shallowing of the Caspian Sea. He stressed that he had already discussed this issue with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Putin clarified that he had agreed with the Azerbaijani side on joint work in this area. In addition, the President instructed the Russian government to implement a number of preventive actions.
