Monument to Peter the Great dismantled in Poltava

The monument to Peter I in the center of Poltava was dismantled by the city authorities. This was reported on May 22 by the Ukrainian edition of "Public".
It is noted that only the base and the information plate remain in place of the monument.
The right to dismantle monuments erected in honor of Peter the Great was granted to the authorities of Poltava after the decision of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine to exclude 15 cultural heritage sites of the regional center from the state register of immovable monuments of the country.
On May 7, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said that in Sumy, on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, the authorities removed a bas-relief and a stele with the dates of the beginning and end of the Great Patriotic War from the memorial.
