The Swiss Federal Court has rejected the appeal of Russian biathlete Evgeny Ustyugov, confirming the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on his disqualification. This was reported on May 22 by RIA Novosti, referring to the relevant court document.

Ustyugov was disqualified in 2020 for a period of four years due to abnormal indicators of the biological passport. This decision led to the cancellation of all his results, starting from January 24, 2010 and until the end of the 2013/14 season.

In addition, the court decided that the losing party should cover the court costs in the amount of 7 thousand Swiss francs (€7.3 thousand) and pay the defendant 8 thousand Swiss francs (€8.4 thousand) in compensation.

Russian athlete Ustyugov was charged with doping in August 2018. He was initially acquitted, but the case was reopened in February 2020.

In February 2020, the athlete was found guilty of using oxandrolone (an anabolic steroid). Thus, Russia lost the first place in the medal standings of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.
