The business program of the XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress has been launched in St. Petersburg

Andrey Yatskin, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, launched the business program of the XI Nevsky International Environmental Congress (NMEC). On behalf of the organizers, he welcomed and wished success to the numerous Russian and foreign participants and guests of the forum in St. Petersburg, a city that has become not only the cultural but also the ecological capital of Russia these days.

The organizers of the NMEC, which takes place on May 22-23 at the Tavrichesky Palace in St. Petersburg under the motto "Planet Earth: harmony of man and nature", are the Government of Russia, the Federation Council, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation. The operator is the Roscongress Foundation.

Representatives of 76 countries, 17 international organizations, and all subjects of the Russian Federation take part in the NMEC events.

The Federation Council delegation at the forum is headed by Speaker of the Upper house of Parliament Valentina Matvienko. She will speak at the plenary session "Ecology of the New Reality: Challenges and Opportunities", and will hold a number of bilateral international meetings on the sidelines of the NMEC.

"Explosive technological innovation, opening up new horizons for humanity, simultaneously carries obvious risks that require an urgent response. Of course, the global nature of the tasks suggests that we must act together," says Valentina Matvienko.

In her opinion, it is impossible to reliably ensure environmental safety for individual countries at the expense of others. "We are all in the same ecological boat. Therefore, cooperation between states in this area should be based on the principles of international law, fair distribution of costs and benefits, and a balance of interests," the Federation Council speaker emphasized in an interview on the eve of the congress.

Russian senators will take part in thematic sessions and round tables on food security, ecology and climate risks, the development of ecotourism, the use of artificial intelligence and digital solutions in the field of ecology, international cooperation between the BRICS countries, the state of the Caspian Sea, the development of a closed-loop economy, the role of women in promoting environmental initiatives, and green investments., subsurface use and low-carbon technologies.

The XI Nevsky International Environmental Congress began with a youth program dedicated to the participation of young people in solving climate problems, the formation of an ecological culture, the development of environmental volunteerism, and the involvement of children in the "green" agenda.

A large-scale eco-educational and cultural program is planned during the Congress in the city on the Neva River.

The organizers of the XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress are the Government of the Russian Federation, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation.
