AvtoVAZ and the Ministry of Industry and Trade are discussing a mechanism for directly subsidizing discounts on car purchases. This was announced by Sergey Gromak, vice president of the automaker. In this case, the automaker will be able to directly give discounts to customers, bypassing the inflated interest rates of banks on loans.

Currently, government support can only be obtained when purchasing a car on a preferential loan or leasing. Under the terms of the preferential car loan program, the basic discount is 20% (for residents of the Far Eastern Federal District — 25%) of the cost of a car with an internal combustion engine. The program is valid for medical workers, education workers, participants of the Free medical School and their family members, citizens with disabilities, as well as families with children who purchase a car in the subjects of the Far Eastern Federal District.

The program includes cars with internal combustion engines worth up to 2 million rubles, gaining at least 2 thousand points for localization, these are all Lada, VIS, UAZ, Moskvich 3 and GAZ models (gross weight up to 3.5 tons). Also, as part of preferential car loans, all categories of borrowers can purchase electric vehicles and sequential hybrids produced in the Russian Federation at a 35% discount (but not more than 925 thousand rubles).

On May 15, it became known that the average price of a new Russian car in April 2025 reached 1.48 million rubles, which is 54.8% more than in February 2022. The average price for a used Russian car no older than 20 years in April 2025 was 0.6 million rubles, which is 26.1% more than in February 2022.

On May 7, it was reported that by the end of April, 102.1 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 25.5% less than in the same month last year. Lada Granta has become the leader of the Russian car market among all passenger car models.
