Trump rejected the demand of EU leaders for an "unconditional" ceasefire in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump has rejected the European Union's (EU) proposal for an "unconditional" ceasefire as a result of negotiations on Ukraine. This was reported on May 21 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.
"Some of the Europeans who participated in the telephone conversation on Monday insisted that the result of any negotiations in the Vatican should be an unconditional cease—fire," the publication says.
However, Trump disagreed with this position, stressing that he did not like the use of such a term in the context of discussing measures to resolve the conflict.
On the same day, it was reported that the next round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on the settlement of the conflict could take place in the Vatican in mid-June. The American delegation will also be present at the meeting.
Prior to that, on May 20, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the Vatican had stated its desire to host negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. At the same time, he added that so far no specific decisions have been made on the place of continuation of possible future contacts. He stressed that the Russian side is grateful to everyone who is ready to contribute.
