The Gagarin Cup 2025 has become the most visited in the history of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). This was announced by the league's press service on May 22.
According to the organizers, the matches of the 2024/25 season tournament gathered 836,472 spectators in the stands. This is almost 90,000 more than in the previous season, when the number of people present was 751,703.
The average attendance at Gagarin Cup matches also set a new record, reaching 9614 viewers per game. This exceeds the previous record recorded in the 2023/24 season. At that time, the average attendance was 9396 viewers.
In addition, the Gagarin Cup 2025 will be remembered not only for the high interest from the fans, but also for its effectiveness. In 87 matches of the tournament, the teams demonstrated an impressive level of play, scoring an average of 5.46 goals per match.
On May 21, in the fifth match of the final series of the KHL playoffs, Yaroslavl hockey club Lokomotiv defeated Chelyabinsk Traktor and won the Gagarin Cup for the first time in history. The game took place in Yaroslavl and ended in overtime with the score 2:1 (0:0, 1:0, 0:1, 1:0) in favor of the owners.
