The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Andrei Pasko, a soldier of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), to 16 years in a penal colony for crimes in the Kursk region. This was reported on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on May 22.
It was established that on October 20, 2024, Pasko, armed with a machine gun, illegally entered the Kursk region in an armored car and took up observation positions near Zeleny Shlyakh in the Sudzhansky district. For several days, he blocked the settlement, prevented the evacuation of civilians and intimidated them. Later, on October 24, Pasko abandoned his position and surrendered to the Russian military.
The court found the man guilty under paragraphs "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("The commission by a group of persons by prior agreement of a terrorist act, which entailed the onset of grave consequences"). He was sentenced to 16 years in prison, of which he will spend the first four years in prison, and the rest of the term in a high—security penal colony.
On May 14, two Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers were sentenced to 16 years in prison for mining roads and obstructing the evacuation of civilians in the Kursk region. The defendants were detained during the fighting by soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces). Each of the Ukrainians was found guilty of committing a terrorist act in the Kursk region (paragraphs "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
