Fraudsters began to massively deceive car service customers

In Moscow, customers of car repair shops began to be massively deceived by fraudsters, a law enforcement source told Izvestia and the victims confirmed.
According to the stolen databases of the service station, the attackers, disguised as customers, call the service, ask for the amount of repairs and the status of work. Then they contact the car owners on behalf of the repair shop and ask them to transfer money for the alleged service. In some cases, the amount of damage exceeds 500 thousand rubles, and criminal cases have been initiated.
Leaks of personal data are widespread — we are not talking about one, but about different Moscow car repair shops.
The victim, Sergei Fetisov, told Izvestia that on May 5 he took his KIA to a car repair shop.
"I was waiting for a call from the master, and in the morning they called me and said that the car was ready. The payment was requested to be made at the moment in order to close the order immediately. They named the exact repair amount — 99 thousand rubles, it was previously announced to me in the service, as well as all the parameters of the car, so I had no doubts," Sergey described the situation.
There are many such cases in the capital now, a source told Izvestia. The difference between this fraud scheme and many others is that it operates very precisely, said Dmitry Mil, a neural network architect. This is no longer a cold call from the "bank's security service", but a "warm" call to an interested client.
"Such a call inspires maximum trust, and then it's a matter of technique. It is difficult to impose a fraudulent scheme or transfer on a client who is not looking for a service. Therefore, the primary task of scammers is to get up—to—date information about the victims," the expert said.
