The NATO RQ-4D Phoenix strategic drone (UAV) lost contact over the Black Sea and was forced to return to its base in Italy. This was reported on May 22 by the Reporter portal.

"It is reported that the strategic drone lost contact with the dispatcher and transmitted the 7600 signal," the publication says.

It is specified that the given signal means loss of radio communication. It is used when the aircraft cannot contact the dispatcher, but does not experience any other abnormal situations. It is specified that the RQ-4D Phoenix has arrived to replace the high-altitude drone of the US Air Force RQ-4 Global Hawk, which flew over the Black Sea a few days ago.

On March 5, French Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecorny said that a Russian Su-35 fighter jet made a dangerous approach to a French Reaper drone that was conducting a reconnaissance flight over international waters in the Eastern Mediterranean. At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly stated that all flights of the Russian Aerospace Forces are carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
