An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred off the coast of the island of Crete in Greece. This was announced on May 22 on the website of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

According to the data provided, the tremors were recorded at 03:19 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which corresponds to 6:19 Moscow time. The epicenter was located at a depth of 75 km, about 80 km northeast of Heraklion city and 61 km north of Agios Nikolaos city.

Information about casualties or damage has not been received at the moment.

Seismologists recorded a magnitude 6.4 earthquake off the coast of Papua New Guinea on May 20. It is specified that the source was located at a depth of 25 km near the town of Vevak.
