Yaroslavl "Locomotive" won the Gagarin Cup for the first time in history

In the fifth match of the final playoff series of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Yaroslavl hockey club Lokomotiv defeated Traktor Chelyabinsk and won the Gagarin Cup for the first time in history.

The game took place in Yaroslavl on May 21 and ended in overtime with the score 2:1 (0:0, 1:0, 0:1, 1:0) in favor of the owners. Defender Martin Gernat (in the 26th minute) and striker Maxim Shalunov (in the 69th minute) scored goals for Lokomotiv. Defender Steven Kaempfer scored for Traktor in the 54th minute.

Alexander Radulov, a 38-year-old striker from Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, was named the most valuable player of the KHL playoffs. He played 21 games in this KHL playoffs. Radulov managed to score 16 points, of which seven were goals scored and nine were assists.

As a result of the match, the score in the series became 4:1 in favor of Lokomotiv. Last season, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl had to lose to Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the final of the tournament.

In the first round of the playoffs, Lokomotiv was able to beat Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod 4-0. Then the Omsk Avangard (4:3) and Ufa Salavat Yulaev (4:1) won. Traktor defeated Admiral Vladivostok with a score of 4:2, Dinamo Minsk with a score of 4:1 and Dynamo Moscow also with a score of 4:1.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl also beat Traktor Chelyabinsk in the fourth match of the KHL finals series on May 19. The game was held in Chelyabinsk. The match ended with a score of 3:1 in favor of the guests.
