Trump noted progress in the settlement in Ukraine after a conversation with Putin

US President Donald Trump said on May 21 that his telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin had contributed to significant progress in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
"The day before yesterday (May 19 — Ed.), we talked with President Putin for two and a half hours. I think we have made serious progress," Trump said during a meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House.
The American president also noted that the Ukrainian conflict does not directly concern the United States, but Washington is ready to take action to resolve it.
Putin and Trump had a telephone conversation on May 19 that lasted more than two hours. During the conversation, they discussed, among other things, the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian president called the conversation informative, frank and useful.
On May 20, Trump announced that sanctions against Russia would not be tightened, as there was a chance to achieve a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. He also stated that the Russian side, in his opinion, is ready for dialogue on the cessation of hostilities and is not dragging its feet on this issue at all.
