Ukraine will have to change the composition of the negotiating group to work on a memorandum on a future peace treaty with Russia, as there are not enough professional politicians in the delegation representing Kiev at the Istanbul talks. This was reported on May 21 by the TASS news agency, citing sources.

"There are clearly not enough politicians there. And the question will arise about whose creatures will enter there to control the negotiation process. This will be claimed first of all by [the head of the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky] Andrey Ermak, the power structures will apply, and the Europeans can insist on "their own", plus American influence is possible," the publication notes.

The agency's source noted that, based on all these conditions, Ukraine will try to assemble "a kind of Frankenstein's monster" that will take part in further negotiations.

According to TASS, ex-Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexei Reznikov, who enjoys Ermak's trust, is highly likely to appear in the negotiating group. It is also possible that Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Merezhko, who specializes in international relations, and representatives of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of Ukraine may appear.

"From the Americans, [the head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction] could appear David Arakhamia, but Ermak will be extremely tough to counteract this," the agency's source added.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the preparation of a draft memorandum on a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine was being carried out behind closed doors. He added that a separate list of conditions for a possible ceasefire would be provided.
