- The French Foreign Ministry summoned the Israeli ambassador in connection with the shelling of foreign diplomats

The French Foreign Ministry has summoned the Israeli ambassador in connection with the shelling of foreign diplomats in the city of Jenin in the West Bank of the Jordan River. On May 21, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrault posted a corresponding post on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"The visit to Jenin, which was attended by one of our diplomats, was fired upon by Israeli soldiers. This is unacceptable. The Israeli ambassador will be summoned to give an explanation," he wrote.
Barraud also expressed support for the French representatives and noted their "outstanding work in difficult conditions."
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also ordered the Israeli ambassador to be summoned to Rome to clarify the situation. He announced this on the social network X.
Earlier in the day, The Times of Israel newspaper reported that soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) opened fire near a delegation of diplomats and journalists visiting the city of Jenin. Later, the IDF expressed regret over the incident, stating that the delegation allegedly deviated from the agreed route, which was the reason for the actions of the military.
