The authorities of the European Union (EU) are demanding to bring to justice the Israeli military, who opened fire on a group of foreign diplomats during their visit to the Jenin Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank of the Jordan River. This was stated on May 21 by the head of the European Union (EU) diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, at a press conference in Brussels.

She noted that the military of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) considers the fire to be "precautionary," since shots were fired into the air, but such actions are unacceptable in the presence of diplomats.

"Shots were fired. Warning shots were fired, but they were still aimed at the diplomats. The EU considers this unacceptable and calls for an investigation and identification of those responsible. Israel also signed the Geneva Convention, which protects diplomats," The Times of Israel newspaper quoted Kallas as saying.

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost on the social network X (ex. Twitter) also expressed shock at the attack by Israeli forces on a diplomatic delegation. He called on Tel Aviv to provide convincing explanations for its actions, confirming that the Belgian diplomat in the delegation was not injured.

It was reported earlier on May 21 that IDF soldiers opened fire near a delegation of diplomats and journalists who were visiting the city of Jenin in the West Bank of the Jordan River. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry cited footage from the scene of the incident, which shows dozens of people, including photographers, at the checkpoint in Jenin. After the IDF soldiers open fire in the air, the group runs back to their vehicles. There was no information about the victims. Later, the IDF expressed regret over the incident, announcing the start of an internal audit.
