A pensioner from Moscow handed over almost 24 million rubles to fraudsters after a call allegedly from a marketplace. This was announced on May 21 by a source of Izvestia.

"On May 14, a 70-year-old man received a messenger call offering to receive a product from the marketplace. He reported the sent code from an SMS message, and the scammers gained access to his data," the source explained.

Then the attackers convinced the pensioner that his account on Gosuslugi had been hacked, and he himself was suspected of extremism, allegedly because of the discovered connection with Ukraine. To "legalize" his savings, the man handed the courier $191.4 thousand and €82.2 thousand (a total of 23.8 million rubles) in an iron box.

An inspection is currently underway.

On May 20, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that in the Kirov region, police uncovered a series of frauds committed under the pretext of helping to purchase goods on marketplaces. It was noted that a resident of Sovetsk met people on social networks and offered to buy discounted goods, referring to alleged links with online store owners.
