British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are hysterically demanding that the United States join actions directed against Russia. This was stated on May 21 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the Russian-Armenian University.

"Macron, Starmer and [European Commission President Ursula] von der Leyen and other European figures <...> are now hysterically demanding that the United States join the anti—Russian actions," Lavrov stressed.

In addition, the Foreign Minister recalled the situation with the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul in 2022, and also spoke about anti-Russian sanctions from Europe.

According to Lavrov, the desire of European leaders for Washington to join the sanctions against Moscow "gives them away."

Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump indicated that he personally, as head of state, could make decisions on anti-Russian sanctions. In addition, the head of state noted that at the moment a "critical moment" has come for the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

On May 20, the Axios portal reported that Trump, after a conversation with Putin, told the leaders of the European Union (EU) that the United States did not intend to impose new sanctions against Russia, as they were set to negotiate. The American leader noted that he did not consider this a good idea.
