- For the ex-rector of KFU, they asked for 25 years in a penal colony in a murder case.

The state prosecution has requested 25 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony for Ilshat Gafurov, the former rector of Kazan Federal University (KFU), who is accused of contract killing. This was reported on May 21 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the Savelovsky District Court of Moscow.
The prosecutor's office considered Gafurov's guilt fully proven, as all the evidence gathered confirms the validity of the charges.
According to investigators, in 1999, Gafurov, being the head of Yelabuga, organized two attempts on the life of a local businessman Israfilov, one of which ended with his murder in Moscow.
On December 22, 2022, Gafurov was detained and flown to Moscow. He was charged with contract murder and arrested for two months — until February 21, 2022. Gafurov pleaded not guilty. On May 12, Gafurov's arrest was extended for another six months at the request of the state prosecutor.
