The United States conducted a planned test launch of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). This was announced on May 21 by the American Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on its website.

"From the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, a joint Air Force Global Strike Command (Air Force) pilot group The United States launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with a single Mark-21 High Fidelity De-Entry warhead," the publication says.

The missile's warhead was able to travel approximately 4,2 thousand miles. As a result, she flew to the Kwajalein atolls in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. It is specified that the Reagan air defense test site is located there. The information that was obtained during the test will be used in the future to assess the capabilities of the American strategic forces.

According to the agency, such tests are carried out on a regular basis, regardless of the international situation. To date, the number of such launches has exceeded 300.

In the future, the Minuteman III missiles are planned to be replaced by the new Sentinel system. However, until then, the US Air Force will maintain their combat readiness.

Earlier, on February 19, the United States carried out a previous test launch of the Minuteman III ICBM without a warhead. Thanks to him, it was possible to analyze the performance and other key data related to the accuracy of the missile system.
