An explosion at a coal mine in Afghanistan's Samangan province killed seven people and injured two others. This was announced on May 21 by the Ariana News portal.

"The incident occurred at midnight in the village of Gula, located in the Dar-e-Suf Payin district. The explosion occurred inside a coal mine," the newspaper reports the text of a statement from the press service of the Samangan police Department.

It is noted that the victims were taken to a medical facility, their condition is assessed as stable. The bodies of the victims were recovered from the mine tunnel and handed over to their families, Ariana News writes.

In late April, it was reported that a mine had collapsed in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), killing at least ten people. According to the Reuters news agency, the cause of the disaster could be "uncontrolled construction and poor maintenance of gold mines."
