- The SVR pointed to Brussels' recognition of a mistake in appointing Callas as head of diplomacy.

Brussels is beginning to admit that they made a mistake with the appointment of Kai Kallas to the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. This was announced on May 21 by the press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation.
"The press Bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation reports that, according to information received by the SVR, Brussels is beginning to admit that they made a mistake with the appointment of K. Kallas to the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy," the department stressed.
According to the SVR, on the sidelines of the European Commission, the absolute incompetence of the EU representative on foreign policy is noted with irritation. It is noted that she is "unable to take into account the nuances of countries' positions and can only build simplified schemes, often meaningless."
Callas is also accused of being overly active and prone to uncoordinated initiatives. European politicians were particularly perplexed by her critical remarks about US President Donald Trump and her statement about the need for a "new leader of the free world," the service added.
"It is well known in the West that in Washington such "bold conclusions" are remembered for a long time. And now the State Department simply ignores "tactless diplomacy," the intelligence service said.
As a result, Callas was suspended from the preparation of EU strategic defense documents. Her participation in the discussion of the Ukrainian settlement is practically reduced to zero. The SVR added that in five months of work, Callas has not been able to establish working relations with the leaders of the EU countries and is unable to cope with the main task of coordinating the union's foreign policy departments.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico told reporters on May 11 that Callas was once again trying to tell the leader of a sovereign state what to do, which was unacceptable and required personal discussion. Fico also expressed disagreement with the policy of the new Iron curtain, which, according to him, Kallas actively promotes.
Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin on April 15 called for Kallas to be removed from office after she urged not to visit Russia during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. He stressed that the world, which was saved by the Soviet multinational people at the cost of 27 million dead lives, as well as the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition (the United States and Britain, who lost more than 800 thousand people), must always remember and honor their memory.
