Russian Khachanov reached the 1/4 finals of the ATP tournament in Geneva

Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov reached the 1/4 finals of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournament in Geneva on May 21 after Japanese opponent Kei Nishikori refused to continue fighting in the second round match.

The tennis players' meeting began on May 20. Khachanov won the first set with a score of 7:5, after which he lost in the second — 2:5. Then the match had to be stopped due to weather conditions. The game was supposed to continue on May 21, but Nishikori refused to continue fighting, Sport-Express notes.

In the quarterfinals, Khachanov's fourth-seeded opponent will be the winner of the match between Austrian tennis player Sebastian Ofner and Portuguese Nuno Borges. Currently, the 29-year-old Khachanov has seven wins at tournaments under the auspices of the ATP. It ranks 24th in the organization's ranking.

On May 13, Khachanov lost to the third racket of the world to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the fourth round match of the ATP tournament in Rome. The meeting ended with a score 6:3, 3:6, 7:5 in favor of Alcaraz.
