- Likhachev pointed to Finland's obligation to compensate the Russian Federation for the Hanhikivi nuclear power plant

Finland is obliged to compensate Rosatom in court for the termination of the contract for the Hanhikivi–1 nuclear power plant (NPP). This was announced on May 21 by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the state corporation, at the government hour in the Federation Council.
"The only country that has pointedly refused to cooperate with us is Finland. This is the famous Hanhikivi project. Actually, the Finnish government has always been running away from him, sorry for the jargon. But the Finnish business did not have the courage to defend this project during the years of sanctions pressure," the head of the state corporation said.
Likhachev said that Finland's decision to abandon the project was politicized and could not be commented on from the point of view of common sense. Currently, the Russian Federation is conducting a lawsuit for damages.
"We are currently in judicial mode. We don't care much about the political beliefs of the Finnish government. In our opinion, they should pay and compensate us for the losses incurred during the first stage of construction and creation of the project," he said.
At the same time, the head of Rosatom noted that the state corporation sees prospects for developing cooperation with the United States in the framework of ongoing negotiations between the countries. According to Likhachev, despite the restrictions, the United States continues to purchase Russian enriched uranium because "it is profitable for them."
