ABBA's sound engineer Mikael Tretov has died at the age of 80. This was reported by the Aftonbladet newspaper on May 21.
"His importance to ABBA cannot be overstated. He was a warm, generous man and a good friend. Thank you, Mikke, for all the laughter!" — former band member Bjorn Ulvaeus commented on Tretov's death.
In the 1970s, Tretov became a recording engineer for the ABBA group. According to the publication, he worked on all albums except Voyage, which was released by the Swedish band in 2021.
Even after the breakup of ABBA, the sound engineer continued to work with Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. In addition, he collaborated with the band Caramba, which released songs that also became cult hits.
