The United States refused to include an item on assistance to Ukraine in the communique of the meeting of finance ministers of the G7 summit because of the desire to find common ground with the Russian Federation. Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, told Izvestia about this on May 21.

He recalled that this is another time when the world is watching how the new White House administration blocks statements at the level of certain G7 ministers that contain criticism of the Russian Federation or statements in support of Ukraine.

"This is still a declarative story, <...> but it symbolizes that the American administration hopes to find a common language with Russia, and therefore refrains from harsh, radical statements and tries to restrain the pressure and attitude of the "European hawks" who would be ready to continue confrontation with our country," Dudakov stressed.

The political scientist added that so far there has been no serious pressure from the United States on those interested in continuing the confrontation with Russia. In his opinion, in the future, the American administration should pursue a tougher policy towards both the Europeans and the Kiev regime.

"The fact that such significant statements at the G7 level, albeit declarative, are already being blocked, in general, speaks volumes about the fact that there is a serious split within this Euro-Atlantic unity," the expert summed up.

On May 21, Politico reported that the United States opposes the inclusion of a clause on further support for Ukraine in the final conclusion of the meeting of finance ministers of the G7 countries, which was held in Canada. In addition, the American side also opposed the use of the phrase "illegal" in the document in relation to Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on May 20 that Washington had not stopped supplying weapons to Kiev, but there were no decisions on the possibility of forming new military aid packages. He also stressed that European states seek to continue the Ukrainian conflict, while the United States stands for its settlement.

On April 25, Bloomberg clarified that the United States had limited cybersecurity assistance to Ukraine, thereby weakening its digital frontlines and making it easy prey for hackers.
