Zakharova explained Trump's desire to resolve the conflict in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump is engaged in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, guided by the interests of his country. This was announced on May 21 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"He (Trump. — Ed.) wants to make America great again. He stated that he wants to resolve this crisis. Maybe this is part of his concept of returning America to the status of a great power. He said that was his goal. Therefore, he is engaged in resolving the crisis in Ukraine," she said on Sputnik radio.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Trump had clearly expressed his position, pointing out that the current problems in Ukraine were caused by the actions of former US President Joe Biden and his team. She added that the current American leader focuses on the need for a peaceful resolution of the conflict, which, in her opinion, indicates his desire to make the United States great again.
In addition, Zakharova rejected the accusations of supporting Russia that Trump is facing, stressing that he is focused on protecting the interests of his country.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump had a telephone conversation on May 19 that lasted more than two hours. During the conversation, they discussed, among other things, the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian president called the conversation informative, frank and useful.
