The media reported a sharp increase in potato supplies to Russia from Georgia

Potato exports from Georgia to Russia in January-April 2025 reached almost 42 thousand tons, which is 4.97 times more than in the whole of last year. The corresponding data from the National Statistics Service of the Republic was provided by TASS.

According to the ministry, the volume of potato exports amounted to $16.9 million. The peak was recorded in April. Then the figure reached 16.3 thousand tons. From January to March, Georgia sold potatoes to the Russian Federation at a price of $0.39/kg. In April, the price increased to $0.41/kg.

In the previous year, potatoes were exported to Russia in June, July, October, November and December. The total amount reached $3.3 million (8.44 thousand tons).

In 2025, Georgia exported 66.4 tons of potatoes to seven countries for $21.5 million. After Russia, which ranks first in terms of supplies of this product, there are Azerbaijan (20.2 thousand tons), Armenia (3.4 thousand tons), Kazakhstan (394.5 tons), Turkmenistan (239.4 tons), Moldova (129.21 tons) and Uzbekistan (22 tons).

Earlier, on March 25, it was reported that the volume of vegetable supplies from Georgia to the Stavropol Territory has increased 10-fold since the beginning of 2025 compared to the same period last year. Since the beginning of this year, the Mineralnye Vody Airport has controlled the import of over 10 thousand tons of products, the bulk of which were potatoes and pumpkins.
